This elegant piece in cool turquoise makes a beautiful visual statement in any room or garden. The cylindrical shape falls in two tiers, tapering towards the bottom. Hang a cord set (sold separately) within to create a stunning hanging chandelier, or leave it empty and just enjoy the peaceful sounds of tinkling Capiz shells. Some 75 years ago several fisher families moved from Madura to Java's Eastern coast because of the profusion of sea life. During stormy weather, after all the nets were mended, they began making handicrafts from discarded shells. Capiz shells, or Jingle Oysters, grow like weeds in shallow sea beds. Before the fishermen got creative, they were only collected for the meat and the shells were discarded. Now nothing is wasted. Our beautiful line of capiz shell strands and chimes are designed by Andrea Phillips; the shells are sourced directly from the fishermen and all chimes are individually hand made in our in-house Fair Trade workshop in Bali. zenDeluxe is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation.
